Consultant Physician – Breast Imaging

About the role

The Consultant Physician in Breast Imaging will lead the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care for patients requiring breast imaging services. This senior clinical role involves supervising junior staff, ensuring best‑practice diagnostics and treatment, and contributing to the department’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff and assume responsibility for patient care they provide.
• Diagnose and treat patients according to established best‑practice standards for breast imaging.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients regularly, and document clinical information promptly.
• Review investigation results, modify treatment plans as needed, and ensure appropriate use of resources.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and liaise with other specialties and support services.
• Prepare patients for procedures, obtain informed consent, and manage referrals from emergency, primary care, and other departments.
• Provide out‑of‑hours on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Support departmental initiatives, policies, scheduling, recruitment, and performance management processes.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical excellence in breast imaging.
• Experience supervising and training junior medical staff.
• Strong adherence to hospital policies, patient safety, and resource utilization.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
