Consultant Physician – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The Consultant Physician in the Intensive Care Unit leads the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care for critically ill patients. This senior clinician is expected to model clinical excellence, supervise junior staff, and contribute to the unit’s performance and training initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose, manage and treat ICU patients according to best‑practice standards.
• Oversee and mentor junior medical staff, ensuring safe and effective patient care.
• Participate in performance management processes, including peer review and productivity assessments.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment, and ensuring continuous medical coverage.
• Lead ward rounds, document clinical information promptly, and adjust treatment plans based on investigation results.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, other specialties, and support services to provide holistic patient care.
• Provide on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and families with consent, and maintain collaborative relationships with staff.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical excellence in intensive care medicine.
• Leadership experience supervising junior physicians and contributing to training programs.
• Ability to participate in departmental initiatives, performance reviews, and recruitment activities.
• Commitment to high standards of documentation, resource utilization, and patient safety.
