Consultant Physician – Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The Consultant Physician in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) leads the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients. This senior clinical position is responsible for diagnosing, managing and treating patients while providing mentorship and training to junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and supervise all ICU clinical activities, ensuring adherence to best-practice standards.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Participate in peer-review, productivity and utilization review processes, and support performance-management initiatives.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment, and ensuring continuous medical coverage.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings, liaise with other specialties, and arrange appropriate referrals.
• Provide on‑call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans and consent information to patients and families.

Required profile

• Board-certified physician with extensive experience in intensive care medicine.
• Demonstrated clinical excellence and ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring junior staff.
• Excellent knowledge of hospital policies, admission, discharge and follow-up procedures.
