Consultant Physician - Medical Ophthalmology

About the role

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is hiring a Consultant Physician in Medical Ophthalmology in Abu Dhabi. The Consultant Physician leads and supervises the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care, diagnoses, manages and treats patients under their care, and provides leadership and training for junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat patients according to best-practice standards, including ward rounds, reviewing investigations and modifying treatment
• Lead ward rounds, accept referrals from the emergency department, primary care, other departments, walk-in patients and other hospitals, and liaise with other specialties
• Ensure patients are prepared for procedures, including obtaining informed consent
• Provide on-call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays
• Help lead quality improvement, audit and the reporting and response to untoward incidents
• Supervise, instruct and train junior medical staff, promote clinical research and publication, and commit to continued medical education
• Follow hospital policies on admissions, consultations, daily care, surgery, discharge and follow-up, and assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment and administrative duties

Required profile

• Tier 1: at least 2 years of relevant experience as a consultant or equivalent after board certification
• Tier 2: at least 8 years of full-time employment as a consultant or equivalent after board certification in an internationally accredited institute (fellowship years count)
• For UAE nationals, each year of clinical fellowship in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, the USA or an HAAD-accredited programme counts as two years of experience
• Current national license or equivalent and certified proof of yearly CME
