Department Manager

About the role

The Department Manager works closely with the Store Manager to ensure the department runs smoothly, meets its KPIs and contributes to the overall success of the store. This role oversees merchandising, stock availability, sales performance, profitability and the customer journey while leading a team of associates.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the department’s business, cultivating a strategic understanding of the category and liaising with relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor and achieve department performance against defined KPIs; analyse results and implement action plans to improve sales and profitability.
• Set performance targets for the team in collaboration with the Store Manager and track progress.
• Monitor competitor activities and provide feedback to the Store Manager.
• Utilise clienteling tools and CRM systems to deliver excellent customer service, build loyalty and improve mystery‑shopper scores.
• Act as a brand ambassador, educate VIP and new clients, and participate in ad‑hoc clientele projects.
• Ensure merchandise is properly displayed, stored and maintained; maintain inventory accuracy and control shrinkage.
• Report out‑of‑stock situations to the Stock Planning and Merchandising team.
• Maintain visual‑merchandising standards in line with company guidelines and align displays with sales performance.
• Coach, motivate and organise the team, conduct regular performance discussions and deliver category‑specific training.

Required profile

• At least 60 months (5 years) of experience in retail department management or a similar role.
• Proven ability to meet sales and profitability targets.
• Strong leadership and team‑development skills.
