Deputy Chief Technology Officer – Fintech & Mobile Money

About the role

We are seeking a Deputy Chief Technology Officer to lead the technology organisation of a fast‑growing fintech company operating across West Africa. The role combines strategic oversight of software development, infrastructure and AI adoption with hands‑on technical leadership to ensure the digital wallet platform scales reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end delivery of the fintech/payments platform and related B2B ordering/trade services.
• Lead multiple engineering teams (software, infrastructure, platform) comprising 30+ engineers.
• Drive AI tooling and automation to increase engineering productivity.
• Architect and maintain cloud‑native solutions on AWS, ensuring scalability and security.
• Make decisive technical choices in ambiguous situations and communicate them clearly.
• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Platform and Business units to align technology with business outcomes.
• Stay hands‑on with architecture, code reviews and incident response when needed.

Required profile

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in senior leadership (VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, CTO or equivalent).
• Proven track record of building a core mobile‑money wallet platform from scratch.
• Strong background in fintech, payments or digital‑wallet products.
• Experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary engineering teams.
• Fluency in English; French is a plus.

Required skills

• Backend development with Go, Java, Ruby or Python.
• Cloud‑native architecture on AWS (managed services).
• Implementation of AI tools and automation in engineering workflows.
• Fintech/payments systems, multi‑currency and cross‑border payments.
• Infrastructure/platform engineering and DevOps practices.
