Design Lead - Primary (Electrical) - Substation

About the role

The Design Lead (Primary) will oversee primary engineering activities for AIS/GIS substation projects across multiple regions. The role involves reviewing engineering documents, coordinating BIM 3D modelling, and ensuring interdisciplinary checks with civil, structural, and MEP teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review and assign engineering documents from remote offices, ensuring compliance with local standards and language translation.
• Coordinate with contractors and internal teams (ACWA, NEGU) to obtain drawing approvals and resolve construction issues.
• Lead a team of design engineers and draughtspersons to deliver drawings on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.
• Validate vendor deliverables, perform technical evaluations, and support site execution during pre‑bid, commissioning, and warranty phases.
• Collect project inputs (plot details, feeder arrangements, GA drawings) from clients and vendors and integrate them into design packages.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering.
• 10‑12 years of experience in primary engineering design for substations or power distribution projects.
• Strong knowledge of national and international codes, standards, and contractual technical requirements.
• Ability to perform design and sizing calculations for busbars, UPS, DG, LT transformers, earthing conductors, and related equipment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in BIM 3D modelling for substations.
• General awareness of Dialux and MS Office.
• Desirable knowledge of ETAP, PSCAD, and CYMGRD.
• Experience with layout engineering, SLD preparation, earthing, cable routing, lighting, and lightning protection design.
