Director - Electrical Design, Data Centers

About the role

DAMAC Properties is looking for a Director of Electrical Design for its data center projects in Dubai. The role provides strategic and technical leadership for the planning, design, development and delivery of all electrical and ELV systems, setting the design strategy and ensuring reliable, resilient, scalable and energy-efficient systems that meet project requirements, company standards, international standards, local codes and authority requirements. It covers the full project lifecycle, from concept and feasibility through detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover.

Key responsibilities

• Lead electrical design strategy and governance, including MV/LV distribution, transformers, generators, UPS, switchgear, ATS/STS, busway, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, small power, EPMS and ELV systems.
• Review and oversee design deliverables such as calculations, specifications, drawings, reports, equipment selections and technical submissions.
• Manage and coordinate electrical design consultants, contractors and specialist vendors, ensuring timely delivery, quality and compliance with scope, budget and programme.
• Drive system optimization, redundancy, power quality, capacity, maintainability, lifecycle cost and emerging technologies for high-density and AI data centers.
• Coordinate with mechanical, architectural, structural, civil, ICT, security, fire and life safety teams and other stakeholders.
• Provide technical oversight during construction, testing, commissioning and handover.
• Lead and develop the electrical engineering team, set technical standards, mentor engineers and manage resources.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; a master's in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline is preferred.
• 15+ years of relevant experience, with significant experience designing and delivering data centers, mission-critical facilities or other complex high-reliability environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading electrical design for large-scale data center projects.
• Experience in design management, consultant management, technical governance and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, communication, negotiation and decision-making skills.
• Professional engineering registration or internationally recognized certification preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, NFPA, BS/EN standards and local authority requirements.
• Electrical analysis software such as ETAP, AMTECH or Dialux.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Technical due diligence, design audits, peer reviews, value engineering, risk assessment and technical optimization.
