Dynamic Positioning Operator (Junior DPO)

About the role

Noble Corporation is hiring a Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) in Dubai. The DPO is the junior DP watchstander who trains and works under the direct supervision of the Senior DPO, keeping the vessel on station and monitoring its position while underway. The role also covers navigational watch duties when relieved from DP duty.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the vessel on station and monitor position while making way, continuously watching the systems critical to DP operations
• Optimize vessel position and heading to minimize the force needed to hold location, and anticipate changes in weather and sea state
• Operate the automated and fixed station-keeping systems, and coordinate with the Master and Rig Manager to move on or off location and start or secure the DP systems
• Monitor the DP system and its equipment during drilling operations, and communicate with the rig floor, ROV, engine control room and subsea teams
• Keep all forms, logs, checklists and the daily DP logbook up to date, and record all DP system data
• Support the maintenance of DP equipment, assist in preventative maintenance, and ensure spare parts are available
• Act as vessel radio operator, keep proper GMDSS and radio watch, and support navigation and watchkeeping during transit
• Understudy the Senior DPO, train assigned personnel, and stay aware of weather and vessel movements outside the 500-metre security exclusion zone

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation preferred
• 1+ years of experience on DP vessels and in an industrial marine environment
• Unlimited DPO certificate issued by the Nautical Institute, USCG Unlimited Tonnage, and Third Mate's license (Any Oceans) or equivalent
• Completion of all position training within the designated time period

Required skills

• Proficiency in office applications and dynamic positioning control systems
• Knowledge of FMEA, WSOG, DP Operations Manual, Standing Orders and Night Orders
• Basic understanding of closed-loop control, ballast, power management, fire and gas, and emergency disconnect procedures
