Electric Propulsion Engineer – EV Systems

About the role

Sunreef Yachts is looking for an experienced Electric Propulsion Engineer to lead the design and integration of electric and hybrid propulsion systems for its next‑generation yacht platforms. The role combines high‑voltage power electronics, motor technology and system‑level architecture to deliver reliable, high‑performance electric mobility solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design electric propulsion architectures for electric and hybrid platforms, including PMSM and axial‑flux motors.
• Lead integration of inverters, motor controllers, onboard chargers, HV battery packs, DC/DC converters and power distribution networks.
• Define electrical interfaces, communication logic and operational strategies between propulsion components.
• Develop and validate communication protocols (CAN Bus, CANopen, Modbus, NMEA 2000, Ethernet/IP) with PLC/software teams.
• Support battery integration, thermal management and cooling system design for motors, inverters and HV batteries.
• Conduct load testing, validation, diagnostics, troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
• Collaborate with software, HMI and automation teams during system integration and commissioning.
• Coordinate with suppliers for equipment integration, testing and technical support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Power Electronics or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electric propulsion, EV systems, industrial electric drives or electric mobility projects.
• Proven hands‑on experience with high‑voltage power electronics and motor drive systems.
