English Teacher - Secondary (Immediate Start)

About the role

A leading GEMS international school in the UAE is looking for an English Teacher to start immediately, or by January 2027 at the latest. The school offers a high-quality international education to a diverse student community and is part of GEMS Education. The post suits an adaptable, nurturing practitioner with a strong understanding of English and the needs of young learners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and high-quality English lessons across the Secondary phase.
• Develop students' scientific understanding through practical investigation, enquiry, critical thinking and real-world application.
• Differentiate teaching and use assessment effectively to meet individual learning needs, monitor progress and inform future planning.
• Maintain high expectations for achievement, engagement and behaviour, creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Collaborate with English colleagues on curriculum development and contribute to the wider life of the school.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification such as a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, State Teaching Licence or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in English or a closely related subject meeting UAE teacher approval requirements.
• Experience teaching English in a secondary/high school setting.
• Experience with an international curriculum; American Common Core and/or IB MYP/DP experience is highly advantageous.
• Experience in a diverse international school community and previous experience in the UAE are advantageous but not essential.

Required skills

• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver practical, enquiry-based English lessons.
• Understanding of assessment, differentiation and strategies for learners of varying abilities.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and classroom management skills.
