Feedstock Crane Operator

About the role

The Feedstock Crane Operator is responsible for operating overhead and remote cranes to lift, move, position and reposition loads within the steel production yard. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, accurate load handling, and coordination with quality control and supervisory teams.

Key responsibilities

• Operate stationary or traveling cranes to lift, stack and position beam blanks and other material in the yard.
• Control crane speed and direction according to verbal, written or signal instructions.
• Perform daily safety inspections of the crane and report any malfunctions to the Feedstock Controller or Supervisor.
• Collaborate with QC departments to position bars for inspection and manage skip placement and removal.
• Assist with ancillary tasks such as clearing cobbles, setting up cold‑saw blades and operating auxiliary equipment when required.
• Maintain knowledge of all crane locations within the plant to support operational flexibility.

Required profile

• Technical Diploma or equivalent professional training.
• Minimum five years of experience operating industrial cranes.
• Valid crane driver’s licence.
• Ability to concentrate for long periods and follow verbal and visual instructions.
• Safety‑conscious attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficient crane operation (overhead, stationary and traveling cranes).
• Crane safety inspection and maintenance awareness.
• Mechanical aptitude and good coordination.
• Valid crane driver’s licence.
