General Construction Superintendent

About the role

Wood is recruiting a General Construction Superintendent for a multi-billion-dollar ADNOC Gas EPCM project at Habshan. The role coordinates, manages and supervises all site construction activities so that they are executed safely, efficiently and in line with approved designs, schedules, quality and safety requirements. It provides senior construction leadership across disciplines, contractors and subcontractors, and integrates construction with engineering, procurement, planning, project controls, QA, HSE, commissioning and operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and coordination of site construction, develop and monitor execution plans, work-front strategies and resource deployment plans.
• Lead discipline superintendents, area superintendents, foremen, supervisors and subcontractors across civil, structural, mechanical, piping, welding, electrical, instrumentation, control systems, HVAC, painting and insulation.
• Ensure strict compliance with ADNOC HSE requirements, permit-to-work procedures, risk assessments, method statements and UAE regulations; run site inspections, toolbox talks and safety meetings.
• Coordinate priorities with the Construction Manager, Project Manager, planning, engineering, procurement, quality, HSE, commissioning and client teams; monitor progress against schedules and drive recovery plans.
• Manage interfaces between EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, engineering disciplines, existing plant and operations teams, including brownfield construction, tie-ins, shutdowns and SIMOPS.
• Oversee materials, equipment and installation, quality control, inspection and test plans, and enforce approved lifting plans, crane operations, excavation and work-at-height procedures.
• Monitor contractors and subcontractors, review daily reports and progress data, support project controls and commercial teams on variations and change orders, and close non-conformances.
• Drive mechanical completion, punch-list clearance and handover to pre-commissioning and commissioning, and maintain accurate construction records.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation or another relevant engineering discipline, or equivalent technical qualifications with extensive senior construction management experience.
• Minimum of 20 years of relevant industry experience, including significant senior-level construction management on major oil and gas or gas processing projects.
• Strong knowledge of ADNOC standards, HSE requirements, quality management systems and UAE regulations, and of international codes such as ASME, API, ASTM, IEC, IEEE and ISO.
• Excellent written and spoken English; valid UAE driving licence where required by site access.
• Ability to work in a demanding site-based role at Habshan, including extended site presence and occasional extended hours.

Required skills

• Construction planning, scheduling, resource management, cost awareness, contract administration and risk management.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Primavera P6, progress measurement systems and project reporting platforms.
• Interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, method statements and risk assessments.
• HSE, construction management or project management certifications are advantageous; professional engineering registration is desirable.
