Generator Technician - Site Operations, Abu Dhabi

About the role

Sintaqa is hiring Generator Technicians to operate and maintain Cummins KTA50 1250 kVA generating sets on a continuously running site in Abu Dhabi. This is a hands-on shift role on the plant, watching the sets, taking readings, acting on alarms and keeping the power on. Major repairs are handled by service engineers, so you are the first response when something changes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the Cummins KTA50 generating sets throughout your shift
• Take and record hourly readings: oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, frequency, load, power factor and running hours
• Check and top up fuel, oil and coolant; drain water from fuel filters and separators
• Monitor day tanks and transfer pumps, and keep the sets fuelled
• Start, stop and change over sets as instructed, and manage load sharing between units
• Respond to alarms: identify the cause, take first action and escalate to the duty engineer when it is beyond operator level
• Carry out daily checks on batteries, belts, hoses, air filters, exhaust and leaks
• Keep the shift log and alarm log complete and accurate
• Keep the plant and the surrounding area clean and safe, and hand over properly to the next shift

Required profile

• ITI, diploma or trade certificate in electrical or mechanical, or equivalent hands-on experience
• At least 2 years operating diesel generating sets of 500 kVA or above
• Hands-on experience with Cummins engines such as the KTA50 or a similar large-frame engine
• Able to read a control panel and understand the alarms (PowerCommand, Deep Sea or similar)
• Knows the difference between a warning and a shutdown and acts correctly on both
• Basic troubleshooting: no-start, low oil pressure, high coolant temperature, fuel supply problems
• Comfortable with 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends
• Enough English to read a log sheet, write a shift report and speak to the duty engineer
• Physically fit for plant work in UAE site conditions
