About the role

The College of Engineering at the American University of Sharjah seeks a visionary academic leader to serve as Head of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering starting Fall 2027. The role involves steering the department’s teaching, research, and service activities toward sustainable growth and regional relevance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and develop short‑term and long‑term plans aligned with college and university strategies.
• Ensure high‑quality teaching, curriculum improvement, and innovative delivery methods such as technology‑supported and problem‑based learning.
• Promote cutting‑edge, multidisciplinary research, optimize use of research funds and facilities, and lead accreditation efforts.
• Mentor, inspire, and support faculty and staff to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service.
• Drive student recruitment, enhance student experience through activities, clubs, competitions, and secure internship and employment opportunities.
• Maintain outreach and partnerships with alumni, industry, government, and professional organizations.
• Oversee department operations including scheduling, advising, budgeting, compliance, and risk management.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate in chemical engineering or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated leadership in research with an outstanding publication record.
• Excellence in teaching and a strong record of academic and professional service.
• Effective communication skills and ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and a collegial working environment.

Required skills

• Chemical engineering expertise.
• Experience in multidisciplinary research and securing research funding.
• Knowledge of accreditation processes (e.g., ABET, UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation).
