HPC Systems Administrator

About the role

EDGE, an advanced technology group focused on defence and emerging technologies, is looking for a highly skilled HPC Systems Administrator in Abu Dhabi. The role manages, optimizes and supports the high-performance computing environment used for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) workloads, covering the full lifecycle from infrastructure and scheduler management to user support, performance optimization and capacity planning.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain compute nodes, login nodes, heterogeneous nodes, NAS storage servers and InfiniBand interconnects; monitor hardware health and ensure high availability.
• Configure and tune Slurm, PBS, LSF and Grid Engine schedulers, including fair-share scheduling, QoS limits, preemption and node reservations.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, quotas, SSH access, MFA and security patches, and enforce audit compliance.
• Install and maintain licenses for engineering solvers (ANSYS, Siemens, NASTRAN), manage environment modules and optimize compilers, MPI and GPU drivers.
• Monitor cluster performance, troubleshoot job crashes and solver errors, and provide user training and documentation.
• Enforce storage quotas, backup and archival, and keep parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS, BeeGFS) running.
• Plan future expansion, evaluate new hardware and contribute to the long-term HPC strategy.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or a related field.
• 3-7 years of experience administering Linux-based HPC clusters.
• Strong knowledge of HPC schedulers (Slurm/PBS/LSF).
• Experience with MPI, OpenMP and distributed computing, and familiarity with CFD/FEA solvers.
• Proficiency in Bash and Python scripting.
• English proficiency required.

Preferred qualifications

• GPU-accelerated workloads and CUDA-enabled solvers.
• Container technologies (Singularity/Apptainer).
• Monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, XDMoD).
• Performance profiling and benchmarking.
