HSE Engineer - Electrical Infrastructure Projects

About the role

ELSEWEDY ELECTRIC is hiring a full-time HSE Engineer in Abu Dhabi to implement and monitor Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures and plans across project sites. The role covers compliance with UAE HSE regulations, client requirements and international safety standards, and includes monitoring high-risk activities such as working at height, lifting, excavation, confined space entry and electrical work.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and implement risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and method statements; monitor Permit-to-Work (PTW) systems and safe working practices.
• Conduct site inspections, safety audits and risk assessments, and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, recommending corrective and preventive actions.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, including isolation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness sessions for employees, subcontractors and visitors.
• Monitor PPE requirements, emergency response plans, hazardous materials, waste disposal and environmental protection, and occupational health and welfare conditions.
• Follow up on observations, non-conformities and corrective actions, and coordinate with project managers, construction teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
• Participate in client HSE meetings, internal and external audits and regulatory inspections, and maintain HSE documentation.
• Stop unsafe work where an imminent risk is identified and support the project HSE Management System.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5-8 years of relevant HSE experience in construction or infrastructure projects.
• Preferred: experience in power transmission, substations, overhead transmission lines, underground cables or other electrical infrastructure, and UAE/GCC construction project experience.
• NEBOSH IGC or an equivalent recognized HSE qualification required or preferred depending on project and client needs.
• Strong communication, reporting, leadership and problem-solving skills, able to work independently at project sites.

Required skills

• Knowledge of UAE HSE legislation, local authority requirements and client-specific standards.
• Risk assessment, incident investigation, PTW systems and emergency response procedures.
• Experience with site inspections, safety audits, toolbox talks and HSE training.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
