IP Medical Coder – Hospital Claims Specialist

About the role

The IP Medical Coder joins the Claims Processing Team at Royal Hospital Sharjah, handling inpatient and outpatient claim submissions for a range of insurance providers. The role ensures accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures to support timely reimbursement.

Key responsibilities

• Verify ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS codes on UCF/discharge summaries for daily claim submission.
• Upload and resubmit OP and IP e‑claims through hospital portals and DHPO.
• Analyse documentation, generate reports on coding discrepancies, and flag non‑billable codes.
• Assign appropriate CPT/HCPCS codes for new services and maintain updated code lists.
• Coordinate with consultants, insurance doctors, billing supervisors and accountants for claim follow‑up, reconciliation and final sign‑off.
• Provide training material and support to cashiers, claims processors and nursing staff on coding requirements.
• Document audit findings and communicate coding clarifications to physicians and clinicians.

Required profile

• Senior‑level medical coder with strong knowledge of inpatient and outpatient coding standards.
• Proven experience reviewing physician documentation and resolving coding discrepancies.
• Ability to interact with insurance teams and internal billing departments.
