Java Backend Engineer - Cellular Communications

About the role

Vantari, a specialist recruitment partner, is hiring on behalf of an advanced technology client in Abu Dhabi for an experienced Java Software Engineer. The role sits in a high-performance application software team focused on designing and developing backend software for next-generation cellular and secure communication systems, in a complex, distributed and performance-critical environment. The position is on-site in Abu Dhabi and supports sensitive programs, so eligibility to obtain security clearance is required.

Key responsibilities

• Research, design and develop cellular communication solutions using Kotlin, Java, Akka, Gradle, GitLab and Docker.
• Design and implement backend systems based on Domain-Driven Design (DDD), reactive architectures and actor-based systems.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.
• Build scalable, message-based, high-performance backend services.
• Collaborate with software engineers, system architects and product managers, and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Work in multi-disciplinary Agile teams.

Required profile

• BSc or equivalent in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in Java and Kotlin software development.
• Ability to read technical documentation and build tools from specifications.
• Self-directed, with strong planning and execution skills; team player with Agile experience.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Preferred: excellent written and verbal communication, flexible under pressure, upper-intermediate English.
