Junior Research Scientist – Chemistry

About the role

The Life Molecules & Materials Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a motivated Junior Research Scientist to advance projects on membrane shape and protein solubility using quantitative confocal fluorescence microscopy and membrane biochemistry.

Key responsibilities

• Develop bottom‑up experimental approaches to study Golgi apparatus morphology and intracellular protein solubility.
• Prepare and manipulate giant unilamellar vesicles (GUVs) for membrane studies.
• Perform quantitative confocal fluorescence microscopy and related data acquisition.
• Analyze experimental data independently using MATLAB, Python or Mathematica.
• Guide graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory techniques and data analysis.
• Contribute to manuscript and report writing.

Required profile

• B.S. in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in basic quantitative microscopy and wet‑lab biochemistry techniques.
• Prior experience preparing and handling giant unilamellar vesicles.
• Ability to conduct independent quantitative data analysis (MATLAB, Python, or Mathematica).
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, record‑keeping, and willingness to relocate to Abu Dhabi.
