Lab Assistant - Computer Information Science

About the role

The Computer Information Science (CIS) Lab Assistant supports faculty and students by maintaining the college’s laboratories and workshops. This hands‑on position involves installing, demonstrating, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment for practical activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely technical support to faculty, staff and students.
• Maintain a preventative‑maintenance schedule, manuals and logs for all equipment.
• Observe and enforce safety, housekeeping and lab protocols.
• Track borrowed equipment and tools, and recommend improvements to lab operations.
• Receive, install and maintain lab equipment and supplies, and liaise with suppliers.
• Demonstrate equipment use and assist faculty during workshops and laboratory sessions.
• Travel to other HCT colleges for meetings, workshops and conferences as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field (minimum 3 years relevant experience).
• Master’s degree or industry certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, Security/Networking, Server, Hardware) are preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities with PC and OS support experience.
• Experience with networking, wireless networks and WLAN security.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural team.
