Lab Technologist (Histotechnology)

About the role

Royal Khalifa City Hospital Abu Dhabi is hiring a Histotechnology Lab Technologist. The postholder performs clinical tests in one or more areas of histopathology, depending on the size and scope of the laboratory activity, and may receive supervision from the Chief Technician.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis, including preservation, processing, freezing and embedding, and section them on microtomes to make quality slides for staining.
• Stain tissues for routine, special, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry and enzyme histochemistry, prepare, label and store chemical solutions and stains, and record QC results before releasing sections to the pathologist.
• Develop new stains with the supervisor, pathology staff and other technicians.
• Maintain and operate histology equipment and troubleshoot malfunctions; maintain instrumentation according to manufacturer guidelines.
• Manage workload to meet turnaround times and keep up with new technologies.
• Comply with OSH and infection control policies, report hazards and incidents, follow waste management procedures and attend safety training.

Required profile

• Valid DOH/DHA or MOH license as a Histo Technologist to work in the UAE.
• B.Sc. in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science (at least 3 years of training, with one year of emphasis in histopathology or ASCP certification), or an M.Sc./postgraduate degree in the specialty registered with ASCP/CSMLS or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of medical laboratory experience in histopathology for bachelor's graduates; 1 year for postgraduates.
• Currently licensed in the country of origin and holding a HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi.
• Fluent spoken and written English; Arabic desirable but not essential.
