Laboratory Technologist

About the role

The Laboratory Technologist will perform clinical tests across various specialties in a hospital laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO 15189:2022 standards and supporting accurate patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Perform biological, hematological, chemical, and physical analyses on samples such as blood, urine, sputum, water and tissues.
• Operate, maintain and shut down sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Maintain competence in the Laboratory Information System for quality operations.
• Prepare chemical reagents and biological media, following aseptic techniques.
• Prepare slides, conduct microscopic observations, and assist pathologists with tissue preparation.
• Collect blood specimens and conduct a range of tests including blood counts, sugar, sedimentation rate, and bacterial cultures.
• Carry out complete urinalyses and biochemical determinations (liver, thyroid, renal, cardiac functions).
• Participate in quality control and quality improvement activities, recognizing out‑of‑control values and taking corrective action.
• Accurately complete records, reports and follow laboratory policies for data retrieval and specimen identification.
• Maintain positive working relationships with medical staff and communicate clearly with colleagues and the public.

Required profile

• Works under supervision of a Chief Technician or senior staff.
• Demonstrates independence in following policies and procedures.
• Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Responsible for accurate record keeping and adherence to laboratory standards.
• Willing to share on‑call duties as required.

Required skills

• Operation of Laboratory Information System.
• Use of pH meters, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis apparatus, chromatography apparatus, immunoassay analyzers, cell counters, analytical balances and autoclaves.
• Preparation of chemical reagents and biological media.
• Slide preparation and microscopic observation techniques.
• Blood specimen collection and analysis (blood counts, glucose, sedimentation, cultures).
• Urinalysis and biochemical testing using electrophoresis or chromatography.
