Lactation Consultant

About the role

Provides professional breastfeeding and infant‑feeding support to mothers and families before and after delivery, assessing challenges, developing individualized feeding plans, and promoting the health and well‑being of both mother and baby.

Key responsibilities

• Assess mothers and infants to identify breastfeeding and lactation concerns.
• Provide one‑on‑one breastfeeding consultations and practical support.
• Assist mothers with proper positioning, latching, and breastfeeding techniques.
• Educate families about breastfeeding, milk expression, storage, and safe infant feeding practices.
• Support mothers experiencing low milk supply, engorgement, sore or cracked nipples, and ineffective latch.
• Guide use of breast pumps and appropriate milk‑expression techniques.
• Develop individualized lactation care plans based on mother’s and infant’s needs.
• Monitor feeding progress, infant weight gain, and breastfeeding effectiveness.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, midwives, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals when additional care is required.
• Provide emotional support and encouragement to mothers and families.
• Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and consultation documentation.
• Participate in breastfeeding education programs, antenatal classes, and community awareness activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Nutrition, or a related healthcare field.
• Knowledge of breastfeeding techniques, infant feeding, breast pumps, and milk expression/storage.
