Lead Commissioning Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)

About the role

The Lead Commissioning Engineer – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) will direct all commissioning activities for offshore and onshore oil & gas projects, ensuring safe and efficient transition from construction to operational hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate electrical and instrumentation commissioning teams, develop strategies, schedules and procedures.
• Manage pre‑commissioning activities such as system walkdowns, mechanical completion verification, cable continuity and insulation resistance testing.
• Oversee energisation, start‑up and functional testing of HV, MV, LV systems, switchgears, UPS, generators, cathodic protection, DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA and safety instrumented systems.
• Interface with engineering, construction, QA/QC, vendors and client representatives to resolve technical issues and ensure milestone achievement.
• Drive HSE compliance, conduct risk assessments, permit‑to‑work and LOTO procedures, and promote a strong safety culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or related engineering discipline.
• 18‑22 years of commissioning experience in oil & gas, offshore, LNG or EPC/EPCI projects, with at least 5 years in a lead or senior role.
• Relevant certifications such as PMP, BOSIET/HUET, Functional Safety (IEC 61511), CompEx, NEBOSH or equivalent.
• Proven experience with offshore platforms, wellhead towers, jackets, bridges, substations and brownfield tie‑ins.

Required skills

• Commissioning of High, Medium and Low Voltage electrical systems.
• Switchgear, Motor Control Center and Power Transformer testing.
• UPS, Emergency Power, Diesel Generator and Cathodic Protection system start‑up.
• Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD) and PLC commissioning.
• SCADA, Fire & Gas Detection, HIPPS, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and telecommunications integration.
• Cable continuity, insulation resistance and loop‑checking procedures.
