Learning Support Teacher (Special Education)

About the role

The International School of Choueifat in Ras Al Khaimah is looking for a Learning Support Teacher. The role covers an oversight function for all students in the academy setting, ensuring a safe learning environment, planning and following up on academic progress, and working with the Student Life and Student Management teams. It also involves reporting to the SEAQC on student performance and challenges, and the primary assignment may be a specific classroom or a particular subject in regular or intensive classes.

Key responsibilities

• Teach using the provided pacing charts and the SABIS point system
• Mark exams according to the schedule and materials given by the department
• Discuss disciplinary and performance issues with the Academic Quality Controller and the head of department
• Support academically underperforming students so they can reach their potential
• Prepare for and follow external exams using past papers where applicable
• Invigilate exams and support student life events such as art, open house and physical education
• Help with testing children, substituting for absent teachers, organizing lunch and bus runs, and other administrative duties assigned by school management
• Attend training sessions requested by school management and carry out other delegated tasks

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related subject
• Leadership and team management skills
• Interpersonal and communication skills
• Organizational and self-management skills, goal orientation and problem-solving abilities
• Dependability and readiness to go above and beyond
• Meets state and/or federal education and certification requirements, and passes criminal background and reference checks
