Mechanical Engineer - MEP Estimation

About the role

Fatherson International FZE is hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Sharjah to prepare cost estimates and BOQs for mechanical and HVAC works on MEP projects. The role covers quantity take-offs, tender submissions and commercial support during negotiations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and BOQs for mechanical and HVAC works in MEP projects.
• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications and scope of work to identify project requirements.
• Perform quantity take-offs for HVAC ductwork, chilled water piping, ventilation systems and mechanical equipment.
• Prepare material, labour, equipment and installation cost breakdowns.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure competitive pricing.
• Analyse drawings to identify discrepancies, missing details and potential cost variations, and prepare rate analysis, cost comparisons and budget estimates.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, consultants and internal project teams.
• Prepare variation claims, additional work quotations and revised cost estimates, and follow up on updated prices and technical offers.
• Ensure estimates are accurate and submitted within tender deadlines, and provide technical and commercial support during tender negotiations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 4-6 years of experience in mechanical estimation, preferably in UAE MEP contracting companies.
• Experience in high-rise buildings, commercial projects and residential developments is preferred.
• Good negotiation, analytical and communication skills.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water piping, ductwork, ventilation and mechanical equipment.
• BOQ preparation, quantity take-offs, cost estimation and rate analysis.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Excel.
• Knowledge of UAE market rates, supplier pricing and subcontractor quotations.
• Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, specifications and tender documents.
