Medical Coder

About the role

The Medical Coder translates clinical diagnoses, procedures and services into standardized codes for billing and documentation. Working within the hospital’s coding department, you will ensure accurate, compliant coding that supports revenue cycle and regulatory reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Review patient records and assign appropriate ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS codes.
• Verify coding compliance with payer requirements, hospital policies and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation.
• Resolve coding discrepancies and assist the billing team with claim denials.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of patient information.
• Support clinical audits, quality‑control initiatives and continuous‑improvement projects.

Required profile

• Certification in medical coding (CPC, CCS or equivalent).
• Strong knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Experience using hospital information systems and coding software.
• Commitment to ongoing education and staying current with coding standards.
