Medical Records Officer

About the role

The Medical Records Officer is responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with the hospital's file maintenance procedures. This position ensures that all medical documentation is properly collected, indexed, stored, and readily retrievable for authorized personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, sort, scan, and index medical documents and investigation reports.
• Arrange and file patient records in designated locations, ensuring proper classification.
• Retrieve records and provide copies to requesting departments or regulatory bodies.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and prevent unauthorized disclosure.
• Dispose of outdated records or transfer them to inactive storage following legal requirements.
• Enter document identification codes into the records system for efficient retrieval.
• Track borrowed files and ensure their return to the filing room.
• Perform general office duties as directed by the supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma, diploma, or degree.
• Understanding of confidentiality standards for patient information.
• Ability to follow file maintenance procedures and legal guidelines.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
