Operating Room Nurse

About the role

A leading healthcare organization in Dubai is looking for a highly skilled, detail-oriented Operating Room (OR) Nurse. The nurse provides safe, efficient, evidence-based perioperative care throughout the surgical process, ensuring patient safety, effective infection control and smooth coordination of procedures. The role suits someone with strong perioperative experience who can work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care before, during and after surgery, including post-operative care and safe transfer to recovery or another unit.
• Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, supplies and medications according to the planned procedure.
• Perform pre-operative assessments and verify patient identification, procedure, consent, allergies and documentation.
• Assist the surgical team by keeping the environment safe, sterile and organized; perform scrub and circulating nurse duties such as instrument handling, surgical counts, specimen management and documentation.
• Maintain strict aseptic and infection prevention practices.
• Monitor patients' vital signs and response to anesthesia and interventions, escalating concerns promptly.
• Ensure accurate counting and reconciliation of instruments, needles and sponges, and handle, label, document and transfer specimens correctly.
• Operate and monitor surgical equipment and assist anesthesiologists and surgeons during induction, positioning, procedures and emergencies.
• Maintain accurate records of patient care, procedures, medications and intraoperative events, and comply with hospital policies, surgical safety standards and infection control requirements.
• Take part in surgical safety briefings, quality improvement, clinical audits, case reviews and continuing professional development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of recent OR / perioperative nursing experience in a hospital setting.
• Valid nursing license from the home country and eligibility for a Dubai nursing license (DHA eligibility, license or willingness to obtain).
• Experience as a scrub nurse and/or circulating nurse is required.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays, and to work in Dubai, UAE.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, surgical procedures, aseptic technique and infection prevention.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS certification is an advantage.
• Experience in a tertiary care or internationally accredited hospital is an advantage.
• Excellent clinical judgment, attention to detail, communication and teamwork skills.
