Optomechanical Engineer

About the role

EDGE Group is seeking an experienced Opto‑Mechanical Design Engineer to create high‑performance opto‑mechanical components and systems for advanced optical applications. The role involves concept development, analysis, prototyping, and validation using state‑of‑the‑art 3D CAD and simulation tools.

Key responsibilities

• Develop opto‑mechanical concepts and detailed 3D CAD models for innovative systems.
• Design, analyze, document, and support testing of precision opto‑mechanical components and assemblies.
• Perform tolerance, thermal, structural, and optical analyses using CAD, optical modelling, and FEA software.
• Participate in design reviews, troubleshoot issues, and drive continuous improvement of existing products.
• Generate data packs and technical artefacts for manufactured optical components.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in opto‑mechanical systems design and development.
• Strong analytical skills with proven ability to conduct mechanical and thermal analysis of complex systems.
• Excellent communication, documentation and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
• Experience using simulation platforms like ANSYS and FEA software.
• Knowledge of optical modelling tools (Zemax is advantageous).
• Ability to perform structural, mechanical, thermal and vibration analysis.
• Familiarity with electro‑optics lab equipment such as autocollimators and shakers.
