Outpatient Medical Coder

About the role

The Outpatient Medical Coder joins the Claims Processing Team at Royal Hospital Sharjah, ensuring accurate coding of outpatient services for insurance submission. The role involves daily verification of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS codes, uploading e‑claims, and supporting clinicians with coding queries.

Key responsibilities

• Verify ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS codes on UCF/discharge summaries before submission to insurers.
• Upload outpatient e‑claims and manage resubmissions, follow‑ups, and final sign‑off.
• Analyse documentation, generate reports on coding discrepancies, and identify non‑billable codes.
• Assign appropriate codes for newly added services and report audit findings daily.
• Provide clarification to consultants and coordinate with insurance doctors, billing supervisors, and accountants.
• Review physician documentation for discrepancies, contact physicians for missing information, and discuss specialty‑specific rejections.
• Prepare training material for cashiers, claims processors, and nurses on coding requirements.
• Enter codes into the hospital’s coding software and adhere to all policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of ICD‑10‑CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems.
• Experience in outpatient medical coding and e‑claim processing.
• Ability to analyse clinical documentation and produce clear reports.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with clinicians and insurance teams.
• Detail‑oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance.
