Permitting Engineer (Authority Approvals)

About the role

Al Burj is looking for an experienced Permit Engineer (also called Authority Approval Engineer) based in Dubai, within its Engineering / Technical department. The role manages the complete authority approval process for projects, coordinating with government departments and obtaining all required NOCs, permits and completion certificates. The position is full-time and requires 5-8 years of experience in Dubai within engineering consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate all building permit applications and authority approvals in Dubai
• Coordinate with authorities, government departments, utility providers and master developers
• Review architectural, structural and MEP drawings for compliance before submission
• Prepare, submit, monitor and follow up on authority applications until approval
• Work with design consultants, contractors, project managers and technical teams
• Handle authority comments, technical clarifications, resubmissions and approval tracking
• Ensure timely issuance of building permits, construction permits, NOCs and completion certificates
• Maintain an updated database of authority requirements, procedures, regulations and fees
• Advise management and engineering teams on regulatory requirements and potential approval challenges
• Monitor changes in Dubai regulations and prepare weekly and monthly approval status reports

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Dubai
• Strong knowledge of Dubai Municipality regulations, procedures, circulars and the Dubai Building Code
• Proven experience obtaining building permits and authority approvals
• Experience with Dubai Municipality, DDA, Trakhees, DIEZ, DCD, DEWA, RTA, DCAA, DLD and other relevant authorities
• Preferred: established relationships with authorities and ability to manage the full permitting process independently

Required skills

• Familiarity with the Dubai Building Permit System (DBPS) and authority portals
• Ability to interpret architectural, structural and MEP drawings
• Excellent coordination, communication and problem-solving skills
• Strong English; Arabic is an advantage
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet approval deadlines
