Phlebotomist

About the role

The National Reference Laboratory (NRL) is seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to join its clinical team in Sharjah. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality phlebotomy and specimen collection services while ensuring a positive experience for every patient.

Key responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and blood collection for pediatric, adult, pregnant, and geriatric patients using appropriate techniques and equipment.
• Verify patient information, test requests, and relevant medical history prior to specimen collection.
• Collect, label, process, store, and transport blood, urine, and culture specimens accurately and safely.
• Ensure high‑quality and sufficient specimens are obtained, ideally within the first two attempts.
• Provide clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive communication to patients throughout the phlebotomy process.
• Prioritize STAT, scheduled, and outpatient requests while ensuring timely specimen processing.
• Maintain aseptic techniques, hygiene, infection control, and patient safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with M42, DOH/DHA, accreditation, and laboratory quality standards, including CAP and ISO requirements.

Required profile

• Completion of an approved Phlebotomy program or a minimum six‑month program in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
• At least one year of experience in phlebotomy or related specimen collection.
• Valid BLS certification; knowledge of ACLS is advantageous.
