PMC Lead Ground Improvement Engineer

About the role

Wood is seeking an experienced PMC Lead Ground Improvement Engineer to oversee all ground improvement activities on the ADNOC project in Abu Dhabi. The role acts on behalf of the Project Management Consultant, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, quality, safety and schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical review and approval of ground improvement methodologies, designs, calculations and construction procedures.
• Supervise contractors during execution, verify compliance with approved methods, and monitor progress reports.
• Conduct quality assurance and control, reviewing laboratory and field test results and ensuring calibration of equipment.
• Manage project schedule, identify risks, coordinate with planning engineers and participate in progress meetings.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental requirements are met and promote safe execution practices.
• Prepare technical reports, review contractor submissions and maintain documentation of inspections and testing.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer or equivalent certification desirable.
• 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, with at least 8 years managing ground improvement works on large‑scale projects.
• Previous experience working for a PMC, Engineer or Owner’s Engineer is highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with multiple ground improvement techniques across infrastructure, industrial, marine, airport, port or oil & gas projects.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and foundation engineering.
• Expertise in ground improvement design, construction and quality control.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Settle3, gINT and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of international standards (Eurocode 7, ASTM, BS, AASHTO, FHWA) and local regulations.
• Ability to interpret geotechnical investigation data and field monitoring results.
