Practical Nurse

About the role

The Practical Nurse provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, ensuring a high standard of nursing practice in line with evidence‑based guidelines. This role supports patients with daily living activities, medication awareness, and acts as an advocate for patient dignity and rights.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient‑centred nursing care, following unit‑specific competencies and evidence‑based protocols.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including meal distribution and personal hygiene, according to care plans.
• Monitor and report patient observations, medication side‑effects, and any significant changes to the Registered Nurse promptly.
• Document care accurately and navigate the Malaffi health information system within the scope of practice.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care.
• Participate in emergency response procedures and adhere to organisational policies.
• Support new staff, nursing students, and contribute to a collaborative practice environment.
• Identify and report risks, maintain a clean and safe environment, and comply with infection control and health‑and‑safety training.
• Assist with patient and family education, assessing needs and evaluating outcomes.

Required profile

• Ability to work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and follow patient‑care plans.
• Strong observational skills and the capacity to report changes in patient condition promptly.
• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
• Willingness to respond to emergencies and follow organisational policies.
• Effective communication skills for interaction with patients, carers, and the healthcare team.
