Principal Electrical Engineer - Data Centre

About the role

Ramboll is building its MENA data centre practice from the ground up and is hiring a Principal Electrical Engineer in Dubai. The role is the power systems authority of the regional team, acting as technical lead and subject matter expert for mission-critical data centre projects, covering end-to-end electrical design, coordination and commissioning support.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary electrical and power systems technical contact for clients, leading design reviews, architecture presentations and bid discussions
• Own the complete electrical design: MV/LV distribution, substation architecture (AIS/GIS), UPS systems, generators, busbar trunking, earthing, lightning protection and rack-level power delivery
• Design systems for hyperscale and colocation facilities (10-100 MW IT load) and high-density AI environments (40-100+ kW per rack)
• Prepare Electrical Basis of Design, Design Basis Reports and technical presentations; take part in proposal drafting and RFP/TQR responses
• Perform electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop and power balance studies, and power system studies (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics) with ETAP or equivalent
• Lead detailed design documentation: single line diagrams, layouts, equipment schedules, AutoCAD and Revit models, and technical specifications and BOQs
• Coordinate with mechanical, structural, fire protection and BIM teams, and interface with utilities (DEWA, ADDC, FEWA) and civil defence
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning, reliability testing and audits (CAP, ICCA, BCA standards)
• Develop design guidelines, mentor engineers and contribute to the DC Academy and regional thought leadership programme

Required profile

• 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in data centre or mission-critical facilities
• Strong track record leading MV/LV design, including HT/MV switchgear, UPS systems, generators, busbar trunking, earthing and lightning protection
• Experience with high-density AI data centre power, rack-level busway and 48V DC architecture, and CDU electrical interfaces
• Knowledge of UAE utility approval processes, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence electrical submissions and PUE compliance under the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI
• Experience designing to Uptime Institute Tier III or IV standards
