Principal Engineer – Pipeline

About the role

Petrofac is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead a team of engineers and designers in delivering FEED, detailed engineering and proposal work for offshore pipeline projects. The role involves managing technical scope, budgets and schedules while ensuring compliance with contract and tender specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor engineers and designers throughout FEED and detailed design phases.
• Develop and update global procedures, standards and departmental technical guidelines.
• Guide the creation, maintenance and improvement of in‑house software tools.
• Train staff to achieve required technical expertise and evaluate performance.
• Review Invitation‑to‑Bid documents, issue inquiries, assess vendor offers and prepare cost estimates.
• Prepare pipeline execution plans, technical document registers and scope split matrices.
• Monitor project progress, ensure deliverables meet client specifications, standards and company procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Ocean Engineering or Naval Architecture (BS, BE, BTech).
• Preferred Master’s or MTech degree.
• Minimum 10 years of pipeline detail engineering experience, including at least 6 years in offshore pipeline design.
• Experience in oil and gas consultancy or EPC environments.

Required skills

• Detailed knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods and statutory codes for offshore pipelines.
• Familiarity with line‑pipe materials, valves and exotic materials.
• Understanding of global and lateral buckling mitigation.
• Proficiency with ABAQUS finite‑element software (desirable).
• Strong project execution and coordination abilities.
