Principal Engineer – Subcontracts

About the role

Petrofac is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead subcontract management across the proposal, award and post‑award phases of its energy projects in Abu Dhabi. The role combines commercial oversight with hands‑on administration, ensuring subcontractors deliver on scope, schedule and cost while supporting the company’s transition to new energy solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage subcontracting processes from pre‑qualification, work‑package preparation and enquiry issuance through bid evaluation and award.
• Administer and monitor subcontract agreements, variations, claims and extensions of time.
• Ensure compliance with Petrofac procedures and drive continuous improvement during construction and close‑out.
• Operate the Subcontract Management System (SCMS) and related BOQ management tools.
• Collaborate with senior team members to prepare pricing, obtain approvals and interface with ERP platforms.
• Maintain subcontract department databases and support post‑award activities such as workbook setup, SCMS uploads/downloads and data integrity.

Required profile

• Proven experience in subcontract administration within the energy or construction sector.
• Strong understanding of contractual and commercial issues throughout project life‑cycle.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid environment, attending the office at least three days per week.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SCMS (Subcontract Management System).
• Experience using ERP platforms for contract and financial data.
