Principal Navigation Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s ADASI division is seeking a Principal Navigation Engineer to lead the design and development of guidance, navigation and control systems for autonomous aircraft. The role involves defining requirements, creating control‑law architectures, and supporting verification, validation and flight‑test activities.

Key responsibilities

• Derive guidance and control requirements from aircraft, mission and safety specifications and define functional performance for autopilot and control allocation.
• Design inner‑loop stabilization, outer‑loop command functions, gain schedules and envelope protection across the operating envelope.
• Develop guidance algorithms, control‑allocation and effector‑management logic for various mission phases.
• Model, analyze and verify control‑law performance using linear, nonlinear, Monte‑Carlo and hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulations.
• Support ground and flight‑test planning, monitor test behavior and troubleshoot issues such as oscillations or trajectory errors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Electrical, Mechanical, Control, Robotics, Applied Mathematics or related field.
• Typically 10+ years of experience in aerospace or safety‑critical control‑system development.
• Professional proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Proven ability to lead guidance and control work packages with limited supervision.

Required skills

• Control‑law design, gain scheduling, envelope protection.
• Guidance algorithm development and control‑allocation.
• Modeling and analysis (trim, linear, nonlinear, frequency‑response, Monte‑Carlo).
• Verification & validation, SIL/PIL/HIL testing.
• Flight‑test support and troubleshooting.
