Principal Propulsor & Powertrain Integration Engineer

About the role

The Principal Propulsor & Powertrain Integration Engineer will own the technical development of aircraft propulsors and their integration into the airframe. You will work across shrouded lift fans, cruise pushers and associated power‑train installations, ensuring performance, structural compatibility, aerodynamics, cooling and system integration meet programme goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead propulsor design, including duct/shroud geometry, blade design, hub and bearing arrangements, and tip‑clearance optimisation for hover, transition and cruise.
• Own rotor dynamics and vibration analysis, covering critical speeds, imbalance, blade‑loss scenarios and vibration transmission to the airframe.
• Integrate propulsor acoustics as a design constraint, collaborating with aerodynamics and flight‑science teams.
• Lead power‑train installation engineering – mounts, pylons, load paths, alignment and maintenance accessibility.
• Assess installation impacts on aircraft aerodynamics and overall propulsion performance.
• Develop one‑drive‑inoperative installation cases, analysing asymmetric loads, vibration, thermal effects and cooling implications.
• Design cooling installations, including inlets, ducting, heat‑exchanger placement and thermal performance for hot‑climate hover.
• Provide inputs for aircraft‑level mass, energy and power assessments.
• Plan and execute propulsor and installation testing on thrust stands, whirl rigs and vibration rigs, analysing results for design improvements.
• Collaborate closely with propulsion, aerodynamics, structures, systems, test and manufacturing teams.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in propulsion installation, turbomachinery, rotor, fan or propeller engineering.
• Proven expertise in aero‑propulsor design, rotor dynamics and vibration analysis.
• Strong background in cooling system design for high‑temperature aerospace applications.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary integration projects in an aerospace environment.
