Professor of Art History (Tenure-Track, Open Rank)

About the role

The Division of Arts and Humanities at NYU Abu Dhabi is seeking a tenure-track/tenured Professor of Art History (open rank) for the 2027-28 academic year, specialising in Modern and Contemporary Arab Art History. The successful candidate will help build collaborations with other programs in the Arts & Humanities Division and with other divisions at the university.

Key responsibilities

• Teach at undergraduate and graduate level and advise students in the Program, and teach in the Core Curriculum
• Supervise M.A. and Ph.D. students
• Maintain an active research and publication program
• Participate in departmental and university service
• Foster collaborations with museums, archives and cultural institutions

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Art History, Humanities, Middle East Studies or a closely related field
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and evidence of successful university-level teaching
• Expertise in modern and contemporary art of the Arab world
• Preferred: museum, curatorial or exhibition experience, experience securing external grants, knowledge of Arabic and ability to teach interdisciplinary courses linking art history, cultural studies and cross-cultural scholarship
