Project Implementation Director

About the role

We are a leading international ports and logistics organisation seeking a Project Implementation Director to mobilise major projects from deal signing through to operational go‑live across multiple countries. This hands‑on role will shape a consistent delivery methodology and ensure projects are set up for success.

Key responsibilities

• Mobilise early‑stage international projects, establishing governance, resource plans, integrated schedules and clear accountability.
• Lead projects from contract signing through the initial implementation phase and prepare handover to a permanent Project Director or local leadership team.
• Review and oversee project execution, providing assurance or active intervention when stabilisation or turnaround is needed.
• Develop a group‑wide project delivery methodology for consistent future use.
• Coordinate business, asset and functional workstreams to keep projects aligned with the approved business case and operational go‑live requirements.
• Identify risks, delivery issues and opportunities early, preparing recommendations and decision materials for senior leadership.
• Drive stakeholder engagement across head office, local teams, external consultants, contractors and other partners.
• Maintain strong project controls, including reporting, documentation, change management, cost oversight and effective use of external support.

Required profile

• Previous experience in the ports or container terminal industry.
• Proven track record of mobilising or implementing large, complex projects across multiple functions, geographies or operating environments.
• Strong independent drive and ability to maintain momentum through internal approvals and competing priorities.
• Comfortable working where information, processes or responsibilities are not yet fully defined.
• Quick learner who can absorb unfamiliar information and apply sound judgement with minimal direction.
• Hands‑on approach to building project plans, governance documents, reports, presentations and decision materials.
• Ability to influence cross‑functional stakeholders, establish clear accountability and support teams through delivery challenges.
