Quality Control Specialist – Electronics

About the role

The Quality Control Specialist ensures the quality, reliability, and compliance of electronic components and assemblies throughout the manufacturing process for a defence‑focused environment. The role involves detailed inspections and testing against technical specifications, IPC standards and high‑reliability requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in‑process and final inspection of electronic components, PCBs, PCBAs and electronic assemblies.
• Inspect PCBA workmanship, solder joints, component mounting, cleanliness, marking and assembly defects against acceptance criteria.
• Verify soldering processes, materials, workmanship and solder‑joint acceptability.
• Inspect bare PCBs for conductor, plating, solder mask, annular ring, hole, surface‑finish and other board‑level defects.
• Apply military/space PCB requirements when defined in customer or procurement documentation.
• Verify part numbers, manufacturer markings, values, ratings, date/lot codes, orientation and component traceability.
• Perform or coordinate visual, microscopic, AOI, X‑ray, continuity, insulation‑resistance and functional inspections.
• Verify ESD protection, moisture‑sensitivity level controls, baking requirements, storage conditions and handling practices for sensitive components.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Diploma in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years QC experience in electronics, aerospace, defence or high‑reliability manufacturing.
• In‑depth knowledge of IPC‑A‑610J, IPC J‑STD‑001J and familiarity with IPC‑A‑600, IPC‑6012F (IPC‑6012xS a plus).
• Strong understanding of IPC Class 2/Class 3 high‑reliability requirements.
• Experience with AOI, X‑ray, microscope inspection and electrical test equipment.

Required skills

• IPC standards (IPC‑A‑610J, IPC J‑STD‑001J, IPC‑A‑600, IPC‑6012F).
• Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and X‑ray inspection.
• Microscope inspection and electrical test equipment operation.
• ESD protection and moisture‑sensitivity level (MSL) handling.
• Non‑conformance reporting (NCR), defect classification, MRB and rework processes.
