Registered Nurse II – Postnatal Care

About the role

The Postnatal Registered Nurse II provides comprehensive nursing care to mothers and newborns during the postpartum period at Danat Al Emarat, a specialty women’s and children’s hospital in Abu Dhabi. The role focuses on monitoring health, supporting breastfeeding, educating families, and ensuring a safe transition from childbirth to recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and monitor maternal condition after delivery, including vital signs, pain, uterine involution, and recovery.
• Monitor newborn health status, covering feeding, weight, temperature, elimination patterns, and overall well‑being.
• Identify and promptly report maternal or neonatal complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, infection, jaundice, or respiratory distress.
• Provide breastfeeding support and education, assisting with positioning, latching, and feeding schedules.
• Educate parents on newborn care, including bathing, cord care, safe sleep, and signs of illness.
• Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and immunizations according to physician orders and hospital policies.
• Support mothers emotionally, screen for postpartum depression and anxiety, and document assessments accurately.
• Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification with experience in postnatal or maternal‑newborn care.
• Ability to assess and monitor both maternal and neonatal health indicators.
• Strong communication skills for patient education and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Awareness of infection‑prevention practices and hospital safety standards.
