Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

A confidential private investment firm in Abu Dhabi is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to work on a highly concurrent, large-scale distributed backend system. This is a genuine backend engineering role centred on architecture, scale, and reliability, sitting deep in the systems layer rather than the application layer.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed backend systems handling high volumes of concurrent traffic.
• Own performance optimisation, scalability, and reliability across production systems.
• Debug and troubleshoot complex issues in high‑throughput production environments.
• Work across networking, Linux, and core operating‑system fundamentals as part of day‑to‑day engineering.
• Work with technologies such as Kafka, Redis, and other distributed backend architectures.

Required profile

• Deep experience with distributed systems design, including consistency models, partitioning, replication, and fault tolerance.
• Strong grasp of concurrency, multithreading, and asynchronous processing under real production load.
• Experience with a core programming language such as Python, Java, Go, or C++.
• Experience with message queues and event‑driven architectures such as Kafka or equivalent.
• Caching strategies and in‑memory data stores such as Redis at scale.
• Strong fundamentals in networking protocols, load balancing, and Linux internals.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving latency, throughput, and reliability issues in live systems.
• Comfortable using AI coding tools day to day.
