Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

Bayut & dubizzle are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join their high‑performing cross‑functional squads. You will work on scaling the platform to millions of monthly active users across multiple countries, collaborating with product, QA, design and tech leads.

Key responsibilities

• Rapidly understand the existing codebase and technology stack.
• Lead planning sessions for new features and define roll‑out and roll‑back strategies.
• Design, develop and maintain REST‑based APIs within a Service‑Oriented Architecture.
• Write comprehensive unit, component and integration tests.
• Mentor peers, conduct code reviews and define programming standards.
• Drive reliability, performance and scalability improvements across the backend.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (preferred).
• 6+ years of professional backend development experience.
• Proven ability to handle the full software development lifecycle end‑to‑end.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Required skills

• Python with Django framework.
• Experience with AWS cloud services.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker.
• Design and implementation of high‑traffic, large‑scale web products.
• REST API development and Service‑Oriented Architecture.
• Caching strategies including Memcached.
• Continuous integration and build process management.
• Testing methodologies: unit, component, integration tests.
