Senior Backend Software Engineer

About the role

spiderSilk builds regional, sovereign cybersecurity IP focused on continuous, intelligent and autonomous security for organisations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a leadership role in designing and developing mission-critical systems for its cybersecurity platform, mentoring junior engineers and leading project initiatives.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in one or more languages such as Python and Java, building solutions at high scale
• Experience with distributed systems and scalable architectures
• Familiarity with security principles and secure coding practices
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor other engineers
• Hands-on experience building and operating systems handling high daily traffic volumes
• Collaborative mindset with a track record of working effectively across teams

Required skills

• Proficiency with AI tools supporting operations and development, and practical fluency in prompt engineering
• Strong grasp of software design patterns and their trade-offs
• Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), including schema design, query optimisation and performance tuning
• Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and common security tooling
• Nice to have: vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) and graph databases (Neo4j)
