Senior Bioinformatician

About the role

The Senior Bioinformatician will join M42's multidisciplinary genomics team supporting the Emirati Genome Program, a national whole‑genome sequencing initiative. The role leads complex bioinformatics analyses and drives methodological innovation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute bioinformatics pipelines on large‑scale whole‑genome sequencing datasets.
• Perform variant discovery, genotype‑phenotype, population genetics, association and rare‑variant analyses.
• Integrate genomic, clinical and phenotype data for translational research.
• Assess data quality, biases and reproducibility, and document analytical methods.
• Collaborate with scientists, clinicians and technical teams to achieve cross‑functional research goals.
• Contribute to scientific publications, presentations and conference activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Human Genetics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Extensive experience leading complex genomic analysis projects with large‑scale WGS data.
• Strong publication record and ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and/or R.
• Hands‑on experience with PLINK, REGENIE, bcftools, VCFtools or equivalent bioinformatics tools.
• Deep understanding of human genetics, population genomics and variant analysis.
• Familiarity with clinical/phenotype data standards such as OMOP, FHIR and EHR‑derived phenotypes.
• Experience with machine learning or AI applications in genomics is a plus.
