Senior Control Software Engineer

About the role

EDGE’s POWERTECH centre of excellence is seeking a Senior Control Software Engineer to design and implement advanced control systems for jet engines used in aerospace, defence and autonomous platforms. You will work closely with performance, software and mechanical teams to translate system requirements into robust, certified control solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse jet engine system requirements and define corresponding control system specifications.
• Develop control laws and algorithms for fuel metering, speed/thrust governing and limit protection.
• Create system, plant and controller models in Simulink/MATLAB and run extensive simulations.
• Design and integrate start‑up, shutdown and transient/steady‑state control logic.
• Perform validation and verification, including MIL, SIL, HIL and engine test campaigns.
• Generate and review auto‑coded software, ensuring compliance with aviation certification and MISRA standards.
• Maintain traceability between system, control and software requirements and produce technical documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Control, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical/Electronics or Software Engineering.
• Proficiency in Simulink/MATLAB for model‑based design and simulation.
• Strong knowledge of control theory (closed‑loop, PID, state‑space, frequency‑domain analysis).
• Understanding of jet engine dynamics, operating principles and sensor/actuator interfaces.
• Experience with requirements engineering and documentation practices.
